Financial Services — Advisor Renewals

Insurance and SIP renewals that used to lapse quietly now get called before the deadline

A fast-growing mutual fund distributor + insurance advisory in Tier-1 India · identity withheld

An AI voice employee now reads the renewal pipeline weekly, calls every client 7-14 days before their renewal in Hindi or the client's preferred language, handles the routine ones end-to-end with a payment link on WhatsApp, and books the advisor's calendar only for conversations that need judgement — comparisons, objections, large-ticket decisions. The advisors spend their time on the clients where they genuinely add value.

Before vs after

Before Nexshift.ai

  • 10,000+ client book, ~15% getting a personal renewal call. The rest lapsed silently.
  • Email reminders with low open rates and almost no action.
  • Advisors spending renewal season buried in operational calls, not strategic client conversations.
  • No visibility into why renewals were lost — "they just didn't renew" was the only data available.

With Nexshift.ai

  • 100% of renewals get called ahead of the deadline, in the client's own language.
  • Routine renewals close themselves with a WhatsApp payment link. Advisors never touch them.
  • The hard conversations — comparisons, objections, large-ticket — get the advisor's calendar in-call.
  • Lost renewals get a tagged reason on the lead card. The firm now sees patterns and fixes them.

The challenge — A book of over 10,000 clients with renewal dates distributed across the year. The two founders and their small team could realistically call maybe 10-15% of upcoming renewals personally. The rest got a reminder email that nobody read, and lapsed quietly — a measurable drag on AUM and premium retention that nobody had time to fix.

Renewals are a workflow problem, not a skill problem

For an advisor firm with a book of thousands, the renewal problem is purely a coverage problem. The script barely changes between clients. The actions required at the end are the same handful: send the renewal link, book a review call, flag a comparison objection, update the record. There's no advisory judgement in 80% of the conversations.

The firm had been losing a measurable share of its renewal book not because advisors were bad at renewals — they were excellent when they got to the call — but because they simply couldn't get to 10,000 calls per year. Hiring more junior staff solved it slowly and expensively; email reminders solved almost nothing.

An AI employee that respects compliance guardrails

For a regulated firm, "automate renewal calling" is only viable if the automation is defensible on an audit. IRDAI fair-practice norms set contact-hour limits, require clear disclosures and mandate opt-out handling. SEBI RIA conduct rules forbid specific types of advice. These aren't suggestions — they are enforced.

NexShift ships this configuration out of the box. The script conforms to fair-practice norms by default. Contact-hour limits are respected automatically. Opt-outs are captured and honoured for the rest of the client's life. Every call is recorded and retained per the firm's own retention policy. If a regulator asks "what did you say to this client on this date", the firm can produce the recording and transcript inside minutes.

What the advisors actually do now

The advisors used to spend most of a renewal cycle doing operational calling. They now spend it on three things: the comparison conversations the AI escalated (where a human needs to understand the competing offer and respond), the large-ticket renewals (where the client expects to speak to a person about ₹5L+ premiums), and net-new business from existing clients (where someone had a baby, bought a house, started a company — all of which need human advisory judgement).

Call volume per advisor is down significantly. Conversion per call is up. The firm is retaining a higher share of its renewal book than it was before the deployment. And the advisors are, by their own account, less burnt out.

What this doesn't fit

This isn't a cold-outreach product. The clients being called have already signed with the firm, consented to contact, and have renewal dates in the firm's system. For a pure new-business outbound campaign the economics and compliance posture are different — and should be designed differently.

The AI also doesn't quote premiums it hasn't been given. It reads from the figures in the firm's policy admin or renewal file. Any custom pricing, loyalty exception or discretionary adjustment is escalated to the advisor; the compliance line is never crossed by the agent alone.
